Maker Faire Volunteers:
Volunteers MUST
- Apply online and be approved PRIOR to participating at Maker Faire Tulsa
- Be over the age of 18
- Pass a background check
- OPTIONAL: Attend the Volunteer Training Day (learn the activity zone activities)

7/10/24 – Volunteer Application Available
8/20/24 – Volunteer Application Deadline
8/15/24 – Volunteers Receive list of available stations to fill, choose own slot
8/17/24 – Volunteer Training Day @ Fab Lab Tulsa : 10am – 2pm
8/23/24 – 10am-5pm Friday Setup
8/24/24 – 7am – 10am Pre-Fair Setup – 10am – 5pm Public Fair Hours, day split into 2 shifts (10-1 and 1-5) – 5pm – 7pm Post-Fair Tear Down
Volunteer Station Descriptions
Training Day: To be held at FLT on 8/17/2024. We will be training volunteers on how to use the Sphero Robots Generally, Sphero Robot Golfing, and Blockheads (wooden creations using power tools). We will also be preparing the tools and accessories for the Blockheads (nails, screws, fasteners, etc) into containers for the area.
SKILLS:
- iPad usage
- Bluetooth connection to Sphero Robots
- Keeping Sphero Robots charged during the Faire
- Supervising Sphero Golf – help Faire Guests to install the phone app
- Hand Tools: hammer, screwdriver, pliers
- Heat pressing items onto garments
- Greeting and interacting with Faire Guests in the Activity Zone
Friday Setup (not public facing, HARD LABOR DAY)(10 am – 5 pm)
- Mark floor zones for exhibitor booths and activity zone
- Disperse tables and chairs to booth areas
- Deploy Mobile Lab
- Set up FLT shop
- Set up signage
- Apply flags to stanchions (indoor and out)
- Other activities as needed
Pre-Fair Setup (7-10 am)
- Use carts to bring exhibitors into the fair area
- Disperse tables and chairs to exhibitors as requested
- Direct traffic
Public Fair Hours (10 am – 5 pm, split into 2 shifts, 10-1 and 1-5)
- Supervise / Crowd Control / Helping Patrons of Activity Zone areas, multiple persons needed per area. No previous experience required)
- Have fair attendees sign waivers for Activity Zone, stamp hands of signees
- Door counter / info booth
- Shop aide, pressing t-shirts for sale to patrons (multiple needed)
- EVERY YEAR WE HAVE AN EXTREME SHORTAGE OF VOLUNTEERS IN THE 1 PM TO 5 PM SHIFT
Post Fair Tear-Down
- Use carts to help exhibitors leave the fair area
- Direct Traffic
- Take down signage
- Remove flags from stanchions
- Pack up FLT supplies on FLT trailer
- Unload FLT trailer at storage unit
During all activities, there will be drinks provided for the volunteers in coolers. Each volunteer will receive a meal ticket for use at the Expo Concession. Friday setup day persons will be provided lunch from Jimmy Johns.
